Local Schools Announced as Competition Winners - 26 July 2018
It's a great honour to congratulate two local schools on their recent success.
Year 6 pupils form Ysgol Bro Hedd Wyn took over Yr Ysgwrn as part of the 'Kids in Museums' initiative. They studied the history of Yr Ysgwrn and Hedd Wyn to be able to lead guided tours around the house and greet our visitors whilst also completing other daily tasks that's required for the site to run smoothly.
The were awarded £750 by the 'Moondance Foundation' for their research at Yr Ysgwrn, the school and the local archives that lead to a number of high standard presentations in various fields such as art, drama and creative writing and also for their engagement work with the local community.
A big congratulations also goes to Ysgol Bro Idris for winning the Welsh Heritage Schools Initiative competition, gaining £800 for the school in the process!
The competition's aim is to encourage young peope in schools in Wales to engage in their heritage and the school succeeded by producing a half hour film of Hedd Wyn's history with the pupils in a starring role.
Well done to you all!

We would also like to take the opportunity to congratulate pupils from five Bikenhead primary schools on publishing an anthology of poetry commemorating the centenary of Hedd Wyn's death at the Battle of Passchendaele on 31st of July, 1917. The pupils composed the poems and illustrated the book under the guidance of the bard Eleanor Rees and artist Sian Bailey. Fantastic work!
